KUCHING, Feb 25: Sarawak is stepping further into the digital tax era as approximately 10,000 companies in the State begin participating in Phase 4 of the Inland Revenue Board’s (IRB) e-Invoice initiative.
According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), IRB chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin described the latest phase as part of a broader tax transformation aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency, and compliance.
“More than 10,000 Sarawak companies in Phase 4 will now participate in the e-Invoice initiative,” he told a press conference following a courtesy visit to Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex today.
Nationwide, nearly 200,000 companies have adopted e-Invoice, generating over one billion digital receipts.
Abu Tariq also urged companies to join the ‘Tax Corporate Governance’ programme, a strategic collaboration between IRB and the corporate sector designed to uphold top-level governance and tax reporting standards.
Highlighting accessibility for rural taxpayers, he noted that IRBN offices and satellite offices across Sarawak are available to assist with e-Filing and other digital tax services.
“If there are any difficulties, offices throughout Sarawak are ready to help. Since e-Filing has been in place for a long time and compliance levels are high, anyone still facing issues can visit any office or satellite office across the state,” he added.
During the meeting, Abu Tariq presented IRB Sarawak’s leadership to Abang Johari, with Abang Ehsan Abang Abu Bakar appointed as director of HASiL Sarawak.
Also in attendance was IRB deputy chief executive officer (Management) Datuk Ahmad Khairudin Abdullah. — DayakDaily
