KENINGAU (Dec 11): Police detained 15 individuals in a special operation in Keningau after they were found taking part in illegal motorcycle racing along Jalan Keningau–Apin Apin near KM4 early Wednesday.
Keningau district police chief Superintendent Yampil Anak Garai said the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division launched the operation following information about races that posed a danger to other road users.
All participants were arrested at the scene, and police also seized four four-wheel-drive vehicles and a motorcycle to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving, Section 48(1) for road obstruction, and Section 81(3) for restrictions on competitions and speed trials.
Yampil said firm action will be taken against those involved in illegal racing, which threatens public safety.
He also urged the public to report such activities to help police curb the problem.
