BALAI RINGIN, April 24: A total of 20 interactive whiteboards have been distributed to schools in the Balai Ringin area, in a move aimed at strengthening digital education and narrowing the technology gap between rural and urban classrooms.
The initiative was led by Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan to enhance teaching and learning through more interactive, technology-driven methods.
He stressed that students in rural areas deserve access to facilities on par with their urban counterparts, ensuring they are not left behind in an increasingly digital education landscape.
“Education is my priority. I want every child in this area to receive the best learning opportunities, regardless of their family background,” he said in a statement following the handover ceremony on Wednesday (April 22).
Snowdan, who is also Deputy Minister of Creative Industry and Performing Arts, noted that the contribution builds on earlier efforts, with several schools in Balai Ringin previously receiving smart televisions to support classroom teaching.
Meanwhile, he announced that SK Pantu has been designated as a robotics programme centre to provide early exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The centre will be equipped with robotics tools and made accessible to nearby schools, expanding opportunities for technology-based learning.
He added that SMK Balai Ringin will also receive a dedicated information technology (IT) room complete with computers and supporting facilities to further encourage digital learning.
Snowdan further highlighted that the government allocates about RM10 million annually under the creative industry initiative to support youth talent development and skills training.
The funding can be used for courses, training programmes and engaging professional instructors in areas such as animation, computer graphics, digital media, television production and radio.
“For smaller programmes, assistance of around RM20,000 to RM30,000 can be provided, while larger-scale initiatives may receive between RM50,000 and RM100,000, depending on requirements,” he added. — DayakDaily
