KUCHING, May 22: A 22-year-old local woman was killed in a road accident after the Perodua Axia she was driving lost control and plunged into a drain at Kampung Hangus, Bekenu in Miri early this morning.

In a statement today, Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the fatal accident occurred at about 1.20am.

Initial police investigations at the scene found that the victim was travelling from Bekenu town towards Kampung Hangus when she is believed to have lost control of the vehicle.

“The vehicle then skidded onto the left shoulder of the road before entering a drain,” he said.

He added that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene due to the accident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Members of the public with information related to the incident are urged to contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Faizal Moktar at 012-8186509 or 085-430479, or visit the nearest police station to assist in investigations.
