The scheme, enforced nationwide, will run for 15 days, covering seven days before Hari Raya, the day of celebration, and seven days after.
KPDN deputy minister Senator Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the controlled items are large yellow onions, large red onions, small Indian red onions, garlic (China), dried curly chillies, red chillies, imported beef, imported old ginger, Kembung fish including mabung (8–12 fish per kg), Selayang fish (8–12 fish per kg), dal beans (Australia), long beans, groundnuts or peanuts, whole coconut, grated coconut, chicken wings, round cabbage (Indonesia or China, excluding Beijing cabbage), carrots (China), coconut milk, mustard greens, cucumbers, tomatoes and potatoes (China).
The determination of the list of goods, maximum prices and duration of the scheme was made based on supply availability, current costs, weather conditions, wage rates and other related factors.
Fuziah said maximum prices at wholesale and retail levels for all controlled goods have been gazetted and can be checked on the ministry’s official website at www.kpdn.gov.my.
She added that KPDN will continue working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to ensure sufficient supply of controlled goods throughout the implementation period.
“Enforcement officers nationwide have been mobilised to carry out inspections at strategic locations, including public markets, farmers’ markets and shopping centres, to ensure traders comply with the regulations.
“All traders are reminded to follow the set maximum prices and to use pink price tags for controlled items under the scheme,” she said in a media statement today.
Traders found selling above the maximum price may face a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to three years for individuals, and a fine of up to RM500,000 for companies. Failure to display pink price tags may result in fines of up to RM10,000 for individuals and RM20,000 for companies.
