SARIKEI, April 24: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarikei Branch has seized more than 5,000 litres of diesel in an enforcement operation on a premises in Sungai Medor in Bintangor, believed to be involved in the misappropriation of controlled goods.
KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin said the raid, carried out under Ops Tiris 4.0 on Thursday (April 23), followed an earlier operation by the General Operations Force (GOF) in Sibu, with the case subsequently referred to KPDN for further action.
“A total of 5,030 litres of diesel was discovered at the site, suspected to have been stored without valid authorisation from the Supply Controller,” he said in a statement today.
Authorities also confiscated a lorry, six intermediate bulk containers (IBC) with a capacity of 1,000 litres each, 17 plastic jerrycans, three unbranded electric pumps, eight rubber hoses measuring approximately 25 metres in length, and a vehicle key.
“The estimated value of the seized diesel is RM10,814.50, while the total value of the confiscated items, including equipment and the vehicle, stands at RM16,044.50,” he added.
Matthew confirmed that one case has been opened under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possession of controlled goods under suspicious circumstances.
If convicted, individuals face a fine of up to RM1 million or imprisonment of up to three years, or both. Repeat offenders may be fined up to RM3 million or jailed for up to five years. For companies, fines may reach up to RM2 million, increasing to RM5 million for subsequent offences.
KPDN Sarawak urged the public to assist authorities by reporting any suspicious activities involving controlled goods through official channels, including WhatsApp (019-848 8000), email ([email protected]), the KPDN call centre (1-800-886-800), or the Ez ADU KPDN mobile application.
He stressed that enforcement efforts under Ops Tiris 4.0 will continue to curb the illegal diversion and misuse of subsidised fuel in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
