SIBU (Feb 9): The area inside the Sibu district police headquarters (IPD) is now brighter following the installation of 55 solar-powered lights aimed at enhancing safety and security in the vicinity.

The RM110,000-project was funded by the Sarawak government through Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) under Dudong state constituency.

It was completed and officially launched by Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing on Sunday.

“We will continue to prioritise safety in all related aspects. Lighting plays a crucial role in ensuring security.

“Although enforcement teams are in place, proactive measures are still necessary to ensure safety. Police officers tasked with maintaining security should not be exposed to unnecessary risks, ” Tiong told reporters.

The Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister also commended the Sibu IPD Police Club for installing the solar lights through gotong-royong, which helped improve efficiency and reduce costs compared to the tender process.

“While we want to safeguard the interests of Class F contractors or certain parties, if the community is capable of implementing the project, the opportunity should be given,” he added.

Although Sibu IPD falls outside his constituency, Tiong said he did not hesitate to extend assistance, given the police’s vital role in maintaining public safety throughout the division.

Meanwhile, Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili thanked Tiong and the Sarawak government for the RTP allocation, which enabled the project’s successful completion.

He said Tiong has also agreed to allocate an additional RM100,000 for the same purpose.

“The installation of these solar lights provides significant benefits in terms of safety and comfort, especially within this area,” he said.
