According to a statement from the Information Department, Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi jointly graced the ceremony.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, who is the minister in charge of the event, welcomed the arrival of Wan Junaidi and his wife around 10.40am.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang as well as other local dignitaries were among those present.
Met by the media after the ceremony, Julaihi said the 600 individuals joining the ceremony hailed from Samarahan area.
He said Wan Junaidi and Abang Johari also visited the royal exhibition at the Unimas Gallery.
“It is an exhibition that displays important information especially related to the background of the royal family,” said Julaihi.
The Sebuyau assemblyman said the exhibition goes to show that Sarawak, as a region in Malaysia, also sees the importance of the role of the King as the head of the state as well as a symbol of unity among Malaysians of various ethnicities.
According to him, the Raja Kita exhibition being held at the Summer Mall in Kota Samarahan had become an attraction for the community, especially in Samarahan area.
“I understand that visitors showed interest in the Raja Kita exhibition during the launch on Sept 5, and the exhibition will continue until tomorrow (Sept 8),” said Julaihi.
He believed that the exhibition would be able to attract many more visitors, especially in the Samarahan Division for it was rarely held in Sarawak.
“It is something different that we can share with the people of this state.”
During the Tea Ceremony, Wan Junaidi and Fauziah were entertained to a special video screening of the King’s offcial birthday celebration, and performances by local artists.
In addition, a Kek Pulut Kuning cutting ceremony was also held in connection with the celebration.
