MIRI (April 2): A total of 70 firearm licence and permit holders took part in a shooting proficiency test to ensure their competency and safe handling, as well as the functionality of their firearms.
The programme was held at the Battalion 12 General Operations Force (GOF) shooting range in Lambir near here on Wednesday.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the programme formed part of the firearm licence renewal process for 2026/2027 and aimed to ensure all licence holders mastered safe shooting techniques in accordance with prescribed procedures.
“The test involved firearms under the pistol and rifle categories and was conducted in an orderly manner with full compliance to safety regulations.
“An initial briefing was delivered by the duty officers to ensure all participants understood the procedures and safety measures while at the shooting range,” he said in a statement.
Farhan added that the programme proceeded smoothly and safely, with good cooperation from all participants, reflecting the high level of commitment among licence holders towards safety and discipline in handling firearms.
“This programme also strengthens the efforts of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in ensuring firearm licence and permit holders continue to comply with laws and established safety standards,” he added.
