MIRI (March 8): Eight occupants from three houses in Kampung Bukit Kota, Limbang were forced to evacuate after a landslide destroyed the entire road leading to their homes on Saturday.

Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said no temporary relief centre (PPS) was opened as all the victims are currently staying with relatives.

“The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was among the first to arrive at the scene to monitor the situation and assist the victims, together with the police, Civil Defence Force, relevant government agencies, and the Limbang District Disaster Management Committee,” he said.

Abdul Rahman said this when met by reporters after attending a ‘sahur’ programme and the launch of a fire safety campaign in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season at the Limbang fire station.

Adding on, the Bukit Kota assemblyman said electricity and water supply disrupted by the landslide were restored within 24 hours through the swift action of the relevant agencies.

On the fire safety campaign, he said the initiative was important in raising public awareness and preventing fire incidents, particularly during the Aidilfitri festive season.

“The campaign aims to reduce the risk of house fires, which often increase during the festive season, and to ensure the safety of lives and property.

“Through this programme, fire safety messages can be delivered directly to the community on preventive measures while also raising awareness about the shared responsibility of safeguarding the safety of oneself, family members and neighbours,” he said.

Also present were Limbang district officer Sulaiman Engal and Bomba Limbang chief Ramlan Marajan.
