KUCHING, June 13: The Kampung Tambirat waterfront project in Asajaya, which has been abandoned for over two years, has been investigated, and the findings are currently being reviewed by the Sarawak Attorney General’s Chambers (SAG) to determine the next course of action, including obtaining legal advice.

In a TVS news report, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said the government is now examining the next steps, including the possibility of bringing the case to court.

Speaking to reporters after the symbolic launch of a collaboration between Yayasan Sarawak and KPTM Sdn Bhd today, she explained that the investigation involved external experts, including specialists from Peninsular Malaysia, to identify the actual cause of the project’s failure.

She said that although the project had achieved more than 50 per cent completion, a collapse incident resulted in defects affecting almost the entire structure. In addition, worsening erosion problems have increased the costs required for restoration works and project completion.

Rubiah, who is also the MP for Kota Samarahan, said the project, which was initially valued at more than RM20 million, remains a necessary facility for residents.

“Therefore, the implementing agency is currently reassessing the project’s requirements and specifications to ensure that it can proceed as soon as possible,” she said. — DayakDaily
