SARATOK: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Krian branch wants Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to remain PBB president and lead the party in the next elections.
PBB Krian chairman Bell Bernard Aggan said this was among the resolutions put forward and passed during the division’s triennial general meeting (TGM).
“Sarawak is fortunate to have a leader like Abang Johari, who is visionary, diligent, hardworking, and thoughtful.
“He is the architect of modern Sarawak. Through his ideas, Sarawak has initiated various programmes that allow it to progress on its own, without relying too much on others,” he said during the branch’s TGM at Dewan Sri Krian, here on yesterday (Oct 12).
He emphasised that under Abang Johari’s leadership, Sarawak’s voice is now widely respected.
“This is because he has successfully strengthened Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and earned the people’s trust.
“He has proven that only Sarawak’s party can safeguard the interests of Sarawak, now and in the future,” he said.
He added PBB emerged as a dominant political party, not only in GPS, but also in Malaysia.
“It is a political party that is highly respected, with many representatives appointed ministers and deputy ministers, and for the first time in history, a Deputy Prime Minister,” he said.
Bell also said that many parties, including those in Sabah and some states in the peninsula are looking to emulate Sarawak’s political stability and unity, where 80 out of 82 state seats are dominated by GPS.
“Therefore, we must maintain this,” he said.
In another resolution, Bell also called for the current posts of deputy president and senior vice presidents to be retained without contest in the upcoming PBB Convention.
“With this proposal, we hope that our party will continue to be strong, our state will continue to prosper and we will always be seen as important,” he said.
PBB’s 16th general assembly will be held at the end of January or early February next year.
