KOTA KINABALU (April 9): The Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) Sabah Branch successfully conducted its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program on April 8 with a meaningful visit to the students and faculty of SK Termunong.

The delegation was led by Branch Chairman Ir Benny Song, who was joined by Past ACEM Sabah Chairman Ir Tan KJ and Executive Committee member Ir James Leong.

The team travelled to the rural primary school to engage with the local community and support the educational journey of its young learners.

During the event, ACEM Sabah distributed specially prepared stationery and dry food packs to all 174 students to encourage their daily academic activities.

Accepting the contribution on behalf of the school, headmaster Efendi Sumabi expressed his sincere gratitude, noting that the initiative provides vital support to the school community and directly benefits the students’ learning experience.

In his keynote address to the students, Song emphasised the critical importance of building a “strong foundation” during the primary school years — a concept familiar to engineers but equally vital in education.

“While it is vital for students to master our national language, Bahasa Malaysia, they must also work hard to learn and master English, as it is the key that helps them talk to the whole world and access global knowledge,” he said.

Song further urged the students to embrace Science and Mathematics as the “superpowers” of the modern world.

By laying a solid groundwork in these subjects now, he noted that students would be better prepared to excel in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects as they transition into secondary education.

The visit also served as a platform to inspire the next generation of professionals.

“Engineers are the main pillars of nation-building,” Song remarked.

“It is our hope that by being here today, we can inspire these bright young minds at SK Termunong to one day become the engineers who will design and build the future of Malaysia.”

The event concluded with a gesture of appreciation to the school management and teachers for their dedication to rural education and their warm reception of the ACEM Sabah delegation.

ACEM Sabah remains committed to its mission of promoting the engineering profession while contributing positively to the social and educational development of Sabah.
