KUCHING (Oct 21): The upcoming The Borneo International Water and Wastewater Exhibition and Conference (Biwwec) 2024, to take place from Oct 23 to 25 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), will bring together leading thinkers and experts in water management.

A focal point of this event will be a dedicated session addressing the urgent need for adopting scaled decentralised systems in water infrastructure, aiming to confront the pressing challenges of sustainability and resilience within the global water sector.

This session will feature three esteemed speakers, each bringing substantial expertise in water resource management from different corners of the globe.

Executive director of the International Water Association (IWA) Dr Kalanithy Vairavamoorthy will share invaluable global insights on decentralised water solutions and their significant impact on sustainability initiatives worldwide. He emphasises the necessity for innovation and the establishment of strategic policy frameworks to enhance water management practices across the globe.

Charles Quek

Vice president of the Singapore Water Association (SWA) Charles Quek will offer a regional perspective on how Southeast Asian countries, including Singapore, are leading the way in implementing decentralised systems. His focus on integrated water resource management underscores the region’s commitment to addressing water-related challenges in the face of rapid urbanisation.

Dr Mohmad Asari Daud

Adding a local dimension, president of the Malaysia Water Association (MWA) Dr Mohmad Asari Daud will discuss the unique challenges and opportunities Malaysia faces in adopting decentralised systems within its water infrastructure. Drawing on his extensive experience, he will highlight the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in achieving water resilience in Malaysia.

This session at Biwwec2024 also promises to equip delegates with expert insights that will aid in advancing sustainable water management frameworks, ensuring they are both scalable and adaptable to local conditions. The effective implementation of decentralised systems is essential for fostering resilience against climate change and securing water availability for future generations.
