KOTA KINABALU (Jan 16): Executive officers of the Sedco Group should see themselves as servants of the public and to reject the so-called ‘Little Napoleon’ mentality that breeds abuse of authority and administrative delays, said Kuamut assemblyman Datuk Masiung Banah.
Masiung, who officially assumed duties as the Group’s new chairman on Monday, made these remarks during a recent visit to the state-owned Sedco Mining Sdn Bhd subsidiary at Wisma Perkasa here.
While calling for the officials to adopt a hands-on management style, he highlighted that underperforming government-linked subsidiaries would continue to be closely monitored, with efforts made to identify and address weaknesses in their operations.
“I will personally monitor the integrity of officers and staff of this state-owned agency. Do not attempt to take advantage of the power entrusted to you,” he advised.
“Every member, including those driving the operations of Sedco Group subsidiaries, must deliver effective services to the people,” he said, reiterating that the required shift in mindset should not be confined to senior management alone but must also by rank-and-file staff.
Masiung was accompanied by Sedco Group general manager Datuk Ar James Wong and was briefed by Sedco Mining Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Shamsul Bahri Johari.
