KUCHING (Dec 3): Sarawak’s agrifood and commodity sectors continued to make strong strides this year, driven by higher implementation standards and improved management across key areas.
Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said 2025 demonstrated the ministry’s ability not only to overcome challenges but also to set new benchmarks in policy execution and sector governance.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Dr Rundi said this progress was most evident during Sarawak Agrofest (SAF) 2025, which recorded 811,000 visitors and generated RM6.4 million in sales.
“SAF 2025 was a clear reflection of our capacity to deliver, showcasing that Sarawak is ready to compete confidently in the regional agrofood landscape.
“The turnout and sales demonstrated Sarawak’s ability to manage large-scale events, attract investors, highlight local innovation and strengthen the state’s position as a serious driver of agricultural transformation,” he said in a speech read by Deputy Minister Datuk Martin Ben during the ministry’s appreciation dinner here on Tuesday.
Dr Rundi said these achievements were made possible through disciplined implementation, structured cooperation, and strong organisational commitment.
Looking ahead, he outlined four strategic pillars that will guide the ministry’s direction — enhancing productivity through technology, strengthening research on seeds and livestock, improving the agrifood value chain, and ensuring long-term food security for Sarawak.
“We will move forward confidently and with clear planning as we continue building a stable, resilient, and sustainable food ecosystem,” he added.
Among those present were ministry permanent secretary Datu Sirai Daha and Sarawak Department of Agriculture director Dominic Chunggat.
