KUCHING, March 3: AirBorneo, Sarawak-owned full-service carrier, has introduced online check-in across all routes operated by its ATR turboprop fleet, enhancing convenience and streamlining travel for passengers throughout East Malaysia.

The new feature enables passengers to check in digitally, select their preferred seats and receive an electronic boarding pass before arriving at the airport, reducing waiting times and improving overall travel efficiency.

Online check-in is available for all eligible bookings, including individual travellers, families and group passengers on services operated by AirBorneo’s ATR 72-500 aircraft.

Those travelling with checked baggage can proceed directly to the baggage drop counter upon arrival, significantly expediting the pre-departure process.

Chief executive officer Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin said the rollout marks a key milestone in the airline’s digital transformation journey.

“The introduction of online check-in across our ATR network is an important step forward for AirBorneo. While we are committed to modernising our services, we are equally mindful that many of the communities we serve, particularly in rural and remote areas, may have limited internet connectivity.

“This enhancement offers added convenience for those able to access it, while we continue to maintain full airport counter services to ensure no passenger is left behind. Our priority remains delivering reliable, inclusive and people-centric connectivity for Sarawak,” he said in a media release today.

Passengers can access the online check-in service via the airline’s official website using their booking reference number and surname. The service opens 48 hours before departure and closes 90 minutes prior to take-off.

For flights operated by the DHC-6-400 Twin Otter aircraft, check-in will continue to be conducted at airport counters to ensure operational readiness and provide necessary assistance at remote airstrips.
AirBorneo is Malaysia’s first State-owned airline, wholly owned by the Sarawak government. It was established following the successful acquisition of MASWings Sdn Bhd, completed on Dec 31, 2025.

The airline currently serves 21 destinations, with primary operational bases in Kota Kinabalu and Miri. Its fleet comprises eight ATR 72-500 aircraft and six DHC-6-400 Twin Otter aircraft. For more information, visit www.airborneo.com. — DayakDaily
