KUCHING (Feb 23): AirBorneo has entered into a strategic collaboration with IBM Malaysia Sdn Bhd, supported by SALIHIN Digital, to develop AI-driven data and automation solutions ahead of its commercial launch in 2026.
In a statement on Monday, IBM Malaysia said the collaboration forms part of AirBorneo’s long-term plan to build a modern, efficient and scalable airline.
From the outset, the state-owned full-service airline will adopt an integrated digital architecture designed to support seamless operations, data-driven decision-making and improved customer experience.
AirBorneo chief executive officer Megat Ardian said the airline is laying the groundwork for jet operations scheduled for July 2026, with a focus on enhancing regional connectivity within Sabah and Sarawak.
“As we gear up for our jet operations in July 2026, our vision is to deliver a seamless travel experience and strengthen regional connectivity to Sabah and Sarawak, pioneering innovations that redefine the nation’s aviation landscape.
“Through our collaboration with IBM and SALIHIN Digital, we are harnessing the power of AI from intelligent customer interactions to optimised flight operations.
“We are setting a new benchmark for the future of aviation,” he said in the statement.
Under the collaboration, AirBorneo will implement IBM webMethods Hybrid Integration and IBM Cloud Pak for Integration to automate and connect critical business processes, applications and data flows across its operations ecosystem.
The integrated system is expected to provide real-time visibility, secure data exchange and greater operational agility across airline systems.
IBM Malaysia country general manager and technology leader Dickson Woo said building a competitive airline requires a strong digital foundation.
“Building a world-class airline takes more than aircraft and infrastructure; it requires an intelligent digital foundation that anticipates passenger needs, streamlines operations, and empowers its people.
“The collaboration between IBM and AirBorneo underscores our shared commitment to placing AI at the core of AirBorneo’s transformation, shaping the future of aviation through innovation and intelligence,” he added.
Meanwhile, SALIHIN Digital director of sustainability and modern governance solutions Mohd Sheeril Azri said the partnership demonstrates how industry expertise and advanced technology can accelerate transformation.
“By combining SALIHIN’s industry expertise with IBM’s cutting-edge technology, we have demonstrated how a shared vision and strong partnership can accelerate AirBorneo’s transformation journey, reaffirming that the sky is the limit when you partner with someone you can trust,” he said.
IBM Malaysia said the development aligns with Sarawak’s broader digital economy agenda and is expected to play a key role in strengthening connectivity, attracting investment and supporting the state’s target to expand its economy from RM136 billion to RM282 billion.
By strengthening air connectivity, it said Sarawak is positioned to accelerate economic prosperity, promote social inclusivity, and advance environmental sustainability to ensure long-term, balanced growth.
