KOTA KINABALU (March 19): Aksijaya Artemis emerged as champions in the Keningau NewBee Cup 1.0 Basketball Tournament (Interior Closed) which ended at the Keningau Communty Hall on Sunday.

Aksijaya did not have it easy in the final and were forced to dig deep before claiming a 68-62 victory over KRK team.

NewBee had more reason to celebrate besides being tournament organisers as they secured a comfortable 66-49 over MQ Sliders win to take third placing. The tournament saw 12 teams from around Sabah Interior took part.

Keningau MP Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffery G. Kitingan officiated the closing ceremony. In his speech, Jeffrey described the tournament as an important platform to uncover new young talent while also promoting a healthy lifestyle and strong sportsmanship.

“Competitions like this provide opportunities for young people to stay active, competitive and build discipline through sports,” he said in a statement issued Wednesday.

Organisers said the inaugural edition of the tournament reflected the positive development of basketball in the interior areas of Keningau.

They thanked referees, officials and supporters for helping to ensured the smooth running of the competition.
