KOTA KINABALU (March 7): Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri (Anak Negeri) has voiced strong support for the unified position of Sabah MPs and senators on the April 15 implementation timeline for the state’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement.

Anak Negeri president Datuk Henrynus Amin said the party fully backs efforts to ensure Sabah’s constitutional financial rights are implemented with transparency, legal clarity, and urgency.

“Following a productive courtesy call on Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Mustapha Sakmud today, I wish to express Anak Negeri’s full support for the unified stand taken by Sabah’s MPs and senators regarding the April 15, 2026, implementation window for our state’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement,” he said in a statement.

Henrynus said their discussion focused on ensuring that Sabah’s constitutional financial rights are not merely debated but effectively implemented.

“Our discussion today centred on a shared vision: ensuring that the 40 per cent constitutional financial rights of Sabah are implemented with transparency, legal precision, and a sense of urgency,” he said.

He noted that Anak Negeri has long advocated for the protection of Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and has supported legal action taken by the Sabah Law Association on the matter.

“Anak Negeri has long been a vocal advocate of state rights under MA63, and we have supported the legal action taken by the Sabah Law Association. We are committed to playing a constructive role in this process,” he said.

During the meeting, Henrynus commended Mustapha for his commitment to safeguarding Sabah’s constitutional and financial rights.

“We also congratulated Datuk Mustapha on his appointment as the new PH Sabah chairman and welcomed his role as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department overseeing Sabah and Sarawak affairs,” he said.

He added that the party is ready to contribute insights and grassroots perspectives to assist the minister and his technical committees in finalising a fair and sustainable revenue-sharing formula.

“We view the April 15 timeline as a historic opportunity for the federal government to demonstrate its commitment to the rule of law and the spirit of MA63.

“The High Court’s decision serves as a roadmap toward rectifying a long-standing constitutional oversight.

“We call upon the federal government to move beyond the era of litigation and enter an era of legal compliance,” he said.

Henrynus stressed that respecting the timeline is not only about fulfilling a fiscal obligation but also about upholding the integrity of the Federal Constitution.

“When the law is honoured, the federation is strengthened,” he said.

He added that Anak Negeri is also urging the federal government to prioritise resolving the issue of the ‘lost years’ between 1974 and 2021 through transparent data sharing and mutual respect between the federal and state governments.

Henrynus also called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who pledged to honour Sabah’s 40 per cent constitutional entitlement, to provide the necessary constitutional leadership to ensure the state’s rights are upheld.

“The time for debate has passed; the time for implementation has arrived.

“Anak Negeri stands ready to work alongside Datuk Mustapha and all Sabah lawmakers to ensure that the constitutional rights of the people of Sabah are realised in full and without further delay,” he said.
