KOTA KINABALU (Sept 15): Datuk Seri Panglima Anwar Ibrahim will ensure that the demands of Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) are fulfilled to the best extent possible, said Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Ts Mustapha Sakmud.

As the Prime Minister of Malaysia and Parti Keadilan Rakyat PKR President, Mustapha said Anwar will consistently ensure that every step taken is with the agreement of partners within the Unity Government.

“This is the best example of how inclusive and compassionate leadership can bring positive progress to all partners that form the nation of Malaysia,” he said in his Malaysia Day message.

Mustapha, who is the PKR Sabah Liaison chairman, pointed out the importance of efforts to ensure that the rights of Sabah and Sarawak are fulfilled.

“As we celebrate Malaysia Day, it is important to recognize the ongoing struggle and continuous efforts of past and present leaders to fulfill the rights of Sabah and Sarawak as enshrined in the MA63.

“To date, 11 demands under the MA63 have been resolved, with seven of them fulfilled within two years under the leadership of 10th Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.

The Sepanggar Member of Parliament said the achievements included the transfer of regulatory powers over electricity and the guidelines for the transfer of land in Sabah and Sarawak.

He added that under the ninth Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, three major demands were also resolved, which included the transfer of administrative control over Sipadan and Ligitan Islands to Sabah.

The regulatory power over LPG was transferred to Sarawak under the eighth Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“The remaining unresolved demands will continue to be addressed and resolved with full dedication by the Unity Government, under the leadership of PMX through the Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) meetings.

Mustapha pointed out that in the PKR’s Constitution, Article 5, Clause 5.8 states ‘To uphold loyalty and the spirit of cooperation and fair power-sharing between Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia by empowering equitable political and economic positions by the framework of MA63′.

This reflects that PKR stands as the only national party that prioritizes the importance of MA63 within the framework of a nation-state, he stressed.

“Let us, as the people of Malaysia, unite to realize the vision of Malaysia Madani with the spirit of unity and harmony. May Malaysia continue to progress and grow as a respected and blessed nation,” he said.
