SELANGAU (Jan 16): The Selangau Civil Defence Force (APM) has assured that residents in Lubuk Bukut are not under immediate threat despite flooding in several low-lying areas along the Batang Balingian River following heavy rain today.
Selangau APM officer Luke Douglas Dongum said inspections conducted earlier showed that water levels had stabilised and had not affected residents or damaged longhouse structures.
“Although some low-lying roads and longhouse areas are still flooded, the river trend is stable and there is no immediate threat to residents at this time,” he said when contacted.
The monitoring operation, carried out between 3.40pm and 5.38pm following heavy rainfall in the district, covered areas including the Lubuk Bukut jetty and several longhouses along the riverbank.
Water levels at the jetty were recorded between 0.68m and 0.88m in low-lying areas, while water levels near the longhouses ranged from 0.60m to 0.96m.
Weather conditions were cloudy during the inspection.
Luke added that APM Selangau would continue to monitor the situation closely as a precaution.
“We remain on standby and will take immediate action if the water level rises or weather conditions worsen,” he added.
The operation involved four APM personnel, equipped with a patrol vehicle, life jackets, and water-level measuring equipment.
