SONG (Jan 3): Flood monitoring in several identified risk areas across the Song district this morning found river levels on an upward trend, though the overall situation remains under control with no evacuations required.
The monitoring exercise, carried out between 10.29am and 10.44am under the Song Disaster Operations Control Centre, covered key locations along Sungai Katibas, Sungai Chapi and the Rajang River, including the Song Express Boat Terminal.
Kapit Division Civil Defence Force (APM) Capt Frankie John Jawan said water levels at Sungai Katibas near Rumah Mohd Edwin and at Kampung Alai along Sungai Chapi were rising but remained below critical levels.
At the Song Express Boat Terminal, the Rajang River was recorded at 8.2 metres and continues to be closely monitored.
He said the situation remains stable, with no disaster-related incidents reported.
“Currently, all monitored locations remain safe and accessible, and there have been no emergency situations or flooding incidents recorded,” he said in a statement.
Frankie added that all roads in the monitored areas are passable to both vehicles and pedestrians, while monitoring teams and logistics remain on standby should conditions change.
“Residents living near rivers and low-lying areas are advised to stay alert and remain attentive to changes in water levels, especially if rainfall persists,” he said.
The monitoring operation involved two APM personnel supported by basic logistics and safety equipment.
Frankie said authorities will continue to rely on updates from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), iHYDRO and the Sarawak Irrigation and Drainage Department to assess developments.
