KUCHING, April 4: A united effort is needed to seek global peace, and “let peace in this world begin with each of us,” urged Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuching, Datuk Dr Simon Poh, as he reflected on the meaning of Good Friday.
He emphasised that the day is not merely a remembrance of history, but a powerful reminder of God’s unconditional love for humanity.
“The Scriptures remind us that God showed His love by sending His Son into the world so that we may live through Him. This is love, not that we love God first, but that God loves us and sacrificed His Son to redeem our sins,” he told TVS before leading the Good Friday Mass at St Joseph’s Cathedral yesterday (April 3).

“While on the cross, Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’ God always forgives us. Therefore, we too are called to forgive, make peace, and bring hope to everyone,” he called on.
He encouraged prayers for world peace, especially in conflict zones like the Middle East and Ukraine, echoing Pope Leo XIV’s call for reconciliation and harmony.
“Today’s world still faces various conflicts and acts of violence. We pray that God touches the hearts of world leaders so that reconciliation and harmony may prevail, especially in troubled regions such as the Middle East and Ukraine,” he said.

Ahead of Easter, he also welcomed messages of unity from national leaders, including the Governor of Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, urging all Malaysians to foster respect, acceptance, and love in society.
He also urged Malaysians to work together in building a society founded on respect, acceptance, and love for one another.
“Let peace in this world begin with each of us,” he added, while extending Easter greetings to all.
Concluding the interview, he reflected on the cross he always wears as a personal reminder to live a life of love, compassion, and service.
“May there always be peace, compassion, and blessings for all,” he said. — DayakDaily
