KUCHING (March 6): Sarawakians must continue upholding unity and safeguard the state’s stability and development, said Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

Speaking at the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bau Chinese New Year Gala Dinner on Thursday, the Deputy Premier and SUPP president said Sarawakians must reject any form of division and confrontation to ensure the state continues to progress in a stable political environment.

“As the Sarawak election approaches, it is important for all Sarawakians to remain united and continue safeguarding the stability and development of our state.

“We must reject any form of division and confrontation so that Sarawak can continue moving forward under a stable political environment,” he said.

Dr Sim noted that Sarawak’s steady development over the years has been built on a strong foundation of mutual respect and tolerance.

“The key to Sarawak’s progress has always been the mutual respect and inclusiveness among our different communities, and the harmony and stability that we have maintained for many years,” he added.

He stressed that as political activities begin to intensify, Sarawakians should remain rational and not be influenced by extreme rhetoric or divisive political tactics.

“Sarawak is a society where multiple cultures and ethnic groups coexist. For generations, our communities have lived together and supported one another, forming a unique social model that is special to Sarawak.

“This spirit of unity is our most valuable asset and also the driving force behind our continued development,” he said.

According to him, a stable political environment allows the government to focus on economic growth, infrastructure development, and improving the well-being of the people.

“If the society becomes divided or entangled in political disputes, it will affect the efficiency of governance and could slow down Sarawak’s development,” he said.

He urged Sarawakians to always prioritise the overall interests of the state, view political issues rationally, as well as support leadership and policies that safeguard Sarawak’s rights and promote sustainable development.

“As long as we continue to uphold inclusiveness and mutual trust, we will be able to move forward on a stable foundation towards greater prosperity, while ensuring the next generation grows up in a peaceful, united, and opportunity-filled society,” he added.

Among those present were Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, Bau Municipal Council officer Eddy Nayoi, SUPP Bau chairman Chong Yie Loong, Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, as well as joint organising chairpersons Chung Sze Yung and Jee Shak Moi.
