ASAJAYA, Feb 21: Smaller towns in Samarahan are proving that festive Ramadan bazaars don’t have to be in big cities to draw crowds.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, and Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, visited the Asajaya and Tambirat bazaars today, noting the growing appeal of these community events.

Abdul Karim, who is also the Asajaya assemblyman, said the Asajaya bazaar features 60 stalls, while Tambirat hosts 30, serving mouth-watering dishes perfect for breaking fast.

“While Kuching city has more than 20 bazaars, it’s encouraging to see smaller towns like Asajaya and Tambirat carving out their own Ramadan bazaars.

“Thank you to the Asajaya District Council and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) for organising the Ramadan bazaars in Asajaya and Tambirat,” he said during his visit to the Asajaya Ramadan Bazaar at Asajaya Town Square today.

At Tambirat, Abdul Karim noted that the bazaar, held at the Tambirat Hawkers Centre, is set to benefit from the centre’s rising popularity, which has already attracted visitors from Kuching and even tourist buses.

“The centre is becoming more widely known. From what I understand, many people from Kuching come here to shop for local agricultural produce and seafood.

“We’ve also received information that tourist buses are visiting the centre,” he added.

Despite differences in scale, Abdul Karim noted that the food and festive offerings are similar to larger towns, reflecting a shared culinary culture across Sarawak.

Also present were Samarahan Division Resident Rais Ahmat, Asajaya District Officer Jerry Zannudin Bidin, MPKS chairman Abang Ismawi Abang Ali, MPKS municipal secretary Gustian Durani, and Tambirat Hawkers Centre chairman Asrizal Amran. – DayakDaily
