KUCHING, Feb 28: Sarawak is stepping up efforts to turn its green hydrogen ambitions into real investments and projects, with the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen Conference and Exhibition (APGH) 2026 expected to draw about 5,000 industry and trade visitors to the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni revealed that APGH 2026 will take place from June 9 to 11.

Dr Hazland, who led a town hall titled “Sarawak’s Clean Hydrogen Journey: Addressing Challenges, Enabling Investments, Building the Value Chain”, said the conference signals Sarawak’s transition from exploring hydrogen potential to delivering concrete projects.

“Green hydrogen is no longer being viewed as a standalone experiment, but as a critical component of Sarawak’s broader low-carbon framework.

“This theme reflects a clear shift in direction—from talking about potential to delivering projects, from ambition to execution, and from isolated initiatives to integrated low-carbon systems,” he said at the press conference for APGH 2026 held at Dewan Tun Hussein Onn, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

The event is hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak (MEESty), organised by Borneo Business Connect Sdn Bhd, and supported by Business Events Sarawak.

Carrying the theme “Empowering the Future – Delivering a Resilient Hydrogen Ecosystem”, the conference is expected to gather more than 90 speakers and 800 delegates, alongside around 5,000 industry and trade visitors from 30 countries.

Sarawak’s strategy combines hydrogen development with hydropower, solar energy, and emerging carbon management solutions to reduce emissions while strengthening economic resilience.

Following the success of its inaugural edition, APGH 2026 will feature an enhanced conference programme, expanded exhibition showcase, and curated networking platforms aimed at catalysing investments and cross-border partnerships.

Dr Hazland said the event is expected to strengthen the Asia Pacific’s role as a green hydrogen hub while supporting Malaysia’s and Sarawak’s transition to a low-carbon future. — DayakDaily
