KENINGAU (Feb 19): Efforts to strengthen cultural identity and preserve the heritage of the Dusun Gana community were reinforced during the 2nd annual general meeting (AGM) of Persatuan Gana Sabah (PGS), held at the Kampung Buang Sayang multipurpose hall recently.
The meeting was officiated by Keningau Tourism and Culture Association chairman Rafie Robert, who underscored the importance of unity and teamwork among association members in uplifting the status of the Dusun Gana as one of Sabah’s minority ethnic groups.
In his address, Rafie stressed that initiatives to preserve cultural identity, language and traditional heritage must be carried out in a structured and strategic manner to ensure their continued relevance and appreciation by present and future generations.
“Unity and collective commitment are essential to safeguard the customs and culture of the Dusun Gana community,” he said.
“With careful planning and the implementation of high-impact programmes, this community can be further empowered.”
He also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting programmes and initiatives undertaken by PGS to advance and develop the Dusun Gana community across the state.
As a gesture of support for the association’s leadership and direction, Rafie also agreed to join PGS as a Life Member.
Among those present were Sabah School of Customary Practices director Rozie Gitang; Bundu Liwan Keningau Association chairman Harry Gitik; and Murut Naabai Sabah Organisation deputy chairman Fred V. Marukau.
