KUCHING, April 16: Infrastructure for implementing B20 biodiesel blending, aimed at reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels, is available nationwide except in Bintulu.

B20 biodiesel blending refers to the process of mixing 20 per cent biodiesel with 80 per cent petroleum diesel to produce a blended fuel used in diesel engines.

In a TVS news, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said similar facilities are also in place in the Federal Territory of Labuan and Langkawi.

He said the matter was briefed to the Cabinet by the Minister of Plantations and Commodities during yesterday’s meeting (April 15).

“The Cabinet also reviewed biodiesel policy today, where it was decided that the blending ratio will be increased from B10 to B15, starting with a B12 blend. This will be implemented without any additional cost to the government, using existing biodiesel blending infrastructure,” he said at the weekly press conference in Putrajaya.

Fahmi added that the federal government will further examine the next phase of implementation, while Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir is scheduled to visit relevant facilities this Saturday to assess feedstock used for biodiesel blending.

He noted that the move is intended to strengthen long-term diesel supply security while supporting a faster transition towards renewable energy through economic restructuring.

Meanwhile, Fahmi, who is also the government spokesperson, said two vessels carrying Malaysian fuel supplies are currently en route from the Strait of Hormuz.

“One is expected to arrive on April 17, while the other is likely to arrive the following week. Five other ships remain in the Strait of Hormuz,” he said. — DayakDaily
