KINABATANGAN (Jan 20): The farming community in the Kinabatangan constituency and Lamag constituency should give their full support to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates in the Jan 24 by-elections.
Sabah Farmers’ Organisation chairman Datuk Mohd Nazri Abdullah said that strong backing from the farming community was crucial to ensure the continuity of agricultural development agendas and the welfare of farmers in the areas.
He said BN’s Kinabatangan candidate Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar and BN’s Lamag candidate Mohd Ismail Ayob had the background, service records and clear commitment to championing the interests of farmers and rural communities.
“I appeal to all farmer members in Kinabatangan and Lamag to turn up and cast their votes for the BN candidates for the sake of political stability and continued development of the agricultural sector in these areas,” he said in a statement.
Nazri also reminded members who are eligible to vote early to fulfil their civic duty on Jan 20.
The Kinabatangan by-election will see a three-cornered contest between Mohd Kurniawan Naim, Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman from Warisan and Independent candidate Goldam Hamid.
The Lamag by-election will be a straight fight between Mohd Ismail Ayob and Warisan’s Mazliwati Abdul Malek.
Nazri said that active participation by the organisation’s members would also send a clear signal that the farming community wants stable and credible leadership that genuinely safeguards their interests.
