KUCHING, May 10: The proposed development of the Bau Tourism and Cultural Park Phase Two at Tasik Bikajang, with an estimated cost of RM12.5 million, is expected to be resubmitted for consideration under the Rolling Plan 2028 following the closure of applications for next year’s Rolling Plan.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the ministry would continue to support the project proposal before it is brought to the Ministry of Economy for further consideration.
He noted that while the submission window for the upcoming Rolling Plan has already closed, efforts will be made to ensure the project is still given due consideration under Rolling Plan 2028.

The approach signals an intention to keep the project in the pipeline, pending the next available federal development planning cycle.
Earlier, Tiong was briefed on Phase One of the project, which has been approved with an allocation of RM7.15 million under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).
The Bau Tourism and Cultural Park concept is designed not only to preserve Bau’s historical gold mining heritage, but also to integrate modern elements into a multi-dimensional tourism hub combining culture, heritage, recreation and education.
In addition, the project is expected to connect several key tourism attractions in Bau including Gua Hantu, former gold mining sites, and Tasik Bikajang.
Once implemented, it is seen as having the potential to strengthen Bau’s tourism appeal while stimulating local economic activity through heritage and nature-based tourism.
