ADVERTISE HERE

Nyurak chairs the meeting as the relevant authorities focus on coordination and preparedness measures.
BINTULU (Jan 11): The Bintulu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (BDDMC) has advised the public to remain vigilant and prioritise personal safety amid the ongoing rainy season, which poses an increased risk of flooding in several areas.
BDDMC chairman Datu Nyurak Keti stressed that community leaders play an important role in disseminating accurate and verified information through proper and authoritative channels.
He also cautioned against the spread of unconfirmed reports that could cause confusion and unnecessary public anxiety.
Nyurak, who is also the Bintulu Resident, advised road users to drive cautiously, especially in flood-prone areas, to avoid untoward incidents.
“Those relying on boats for transportation are reminded not to exceed passenger capacity and to always observe safety measures while on the water,” he said.
Nyurak further advised residents to limit movement and avoid going out during heavy rain unless necessary.
“Flood-affected residents should immediately relocate to temporary evacuation centres when instructed by the authorities, without delay, for their own safety and that of their families,” he said.
In addition, he also reminded fishermen not to venture out to sea during heavy rain or unstable weather conditions, and to seek information and advice from the relevant authorities before carrying out any maritime activities.
He said this after chairing the BDDMC meeting at the Sri Bintulu meeting room, Bintulu Resident’s Office on Sunday.
Also present were Bintulu police chief Supt Nixon Joshua Ali, Tatau District police chief DSP Jame Reis, Bintulu District officer Awang Mohammed Nizam Awang Ali Bohan, Tatau District officer Calvin Linggong; Sebauh District officer Theadeus Ling Alu as well as representatives from various government departments.
