KUCHING (July 10): There are platforms available for aspiring Sarawakian artistes to showcase their talents and they are encouraged to snap up any opportunity to make full use of such a facility.
In stating this, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said as a start, they can join state or even national-level competitions, and later on, set their sights on the international arena.
“I asked Dion Das Louis, our very own ‘Little Bornean Birdie’ whether or not he had to learn how to dance, and he said no – it’s just a natural gift for him.
“He’s able to pick things up very fast and create something different and creative, so that’s why he won at the 27th World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in USA.
“My advice: do not be afraid to showcase yourselves if you have the talent. If you’re qualified to contest in the international level, why not? Go for it!
“Our ministry can support you. When you compete at the international level, that’s when you know whether you’re good or not,” he said.
Snowdan was speaking at a press conference here yesterday after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) between Sara Entertainment Sdn Bhd and Rusa Marketing Sdn Bhd (Rusa Music), marking a collaboration on developing and managing Sarawakian artistes.
The signatories were Sara Entertainment managing director Rizwan Edris and Rusa Music director Bratt Pua.
Also present was Sara Entertainment general manager Bell Dzeeto and Rusa Music operations manager Bon Siong Hooi.
