KUCHING (Jan 27): Non-governmental organisation Hope Place Kuching is currently assisting a bedridden senior citizen who is struggling with health issues.
It said widower Mohamad Padil Omar, 74, has achalasia cardia, which is a rare, chronic motor disorder where his esophagus loses the ability to move food down.
“Due to this complication, he is unable to swallow anything, even water. He also started having lung infections and pneumonia last year.
“In September last year, Uncle Padil became bedridden. Although he still can talk and move, he is unable to walk or sit for a long time,” said Hope Place, whose representative paid a house visit recently to deliver assistance.
Hope Place said Mohamad Padil lost his wife more than 20 years ago, and is now living with his middle-aged son and younger brother in Kampung Semariang Pinggir.
Tuah, 53, is a cook at a local eatery but has been unable to work full-time since his father became bedridden.
“Tuah takes care of his father during the week while his uncle Ali, 56, helps on the weekend when he is off from work as a kitchen helper.
“With limited finances, the family is struggling to provide special milk supplements for Uncle Padil,” said Hope Place.
Mohamad Padil, who receives RM600 in monthly welfare aid, is currently being provided with adult diapers and special milk supplements by Hope Place.
To help Hope Place assist more individuals like Mohamad Padil, the public may channel contributions to its Maybank account 511289001160 or by scanning the S Pay Global QR code on its Facebook page.
Receipts will be issued upon request.
