KOTA KINABALU (Dec 1): Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Beliawan has firmly stated that the Sabah state government must maintain GRS Plus as the backbone of its administration and should not accept Barisan Nasional (BN) as a coalition partner.
In a strong statement, the Beliawanis chief Emmie Datuk Martin Idang said the position reflects the clear aspirations of young women in Sabah who want a state government guided by principle, stability and political courage.
She stressed that Sabah can no longer afford to return to a period of political uncertainty marked by power struggles, sudden shifts in allegiance and external interference that previously disrupted the state’s administration.
According to her, cooperation under GRS Plus has demonstrated that local parties are capable of governing in a more harmonious, consistent and independent manner, free from outside pressure.
“This is the crucial foundation that must be maintained to ensure the strength and continuity of the state government,” she said.
Emmie said incidents such as the “Langkah Kinabalu” should serve as a lesson to all Sabahans.
Attempts to topple the government through backdoor manoeuvres had created public anxiety, disrupted the stability of governance and undermined the confidence of investors and the business community.
The Beliawanis movement, she said, strongly rejects any political arrangement that could open the door to a similar scenario recurring, warning that the inclusion of BN as a coalition partner would only increase such risks.
She added that the aspirations of Sabah’s younger generation today are clear, a rejection of old political practices centred on power struggles and external dominance.
Instead, they want a state government that stands on its own, led by local-based parties and courageous enough to defend Sabah’s rights and interests.
“GRS Plus is closer to this aspiration because it provides leadership that understands the real situation on the ground, especially in terms of basic development issues, youth economic needs and, ultimately, state autonomy,” she said.
Emmie further emphasised that Sabah’s political autonomy must remain the main foundation in the formation of the state government.
By retaining GRS Plus without BN, she said Sabah would have greater freedom to formulate its own policies, make independent decisions and chart its development direction based on the true needs of its people, rather than external influence.
“This is the key to ensuring Sabah continues to move forward in a consistent and sustainable direction,” she said.
In this regard, Gagasan Rakyat Beliawanis called on the Sabah Chief Minister to give serious consideration to the voice of the young women’s wing, which represents an increasingly influential and critical group of voters in the state’s political landscape.
“This voice carries the strong desire to see Sabah continue to be led firmly and stably by local-based parties that uphold the dignity and interests of the state,” she added
