Bersatu Beluran divisional leaders have quit the party en bloc.
KOTA KINABALU (March 13): Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Beluran committee members have resigned from the party en bloc.
Former Bersatu Beluran secretary Hamdan Tarawie said the decision was made after careful consideration and with a heavy heart, following growing concerns over the party’s direction and leadership.
“We hereby state that we have lost confidence in the leadership of the party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin,” he said in a statement.
According to him, the party was originally founded to defend the interests of the people, uphold integrity in politics, and champion the welfare of Bumiputera communities, particularly in Sabah.
“Instead, the party now appears more focused on a personal agenda to elevate the president as the ‘poster boy’ and candidate for prime minister, to the extent that many party decisions and actions seem to revolve around that interest,” he claimed.
He further claimed differences of opinion within the party were no longer welcome and instead viewed as threats to the leadership.
Hamdan also expressed serious concern over disciplinary action taken against key party leaders including deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Bersatu Sabah liaison chief Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, and women’s wing chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
“These actions clearly show that the party’s disciplinary board has been used as a political tool to remove those who are seen as not aligned with the top leadership,” he said.
He added such practices not only undermine the principle of fairness within the party but also erode members’ trust in the transparency and integrity of disciplinary processes, which should be free from political influence.
“The struggle that should form the core of the party’s presence in Sabah is no longer being given the priority it deserves,” he claimed.
As grassroots leaders responsible to members at the divisional level and the communities they represent, Hamdan said they could no longer remain silent while witnessing the party deviate from its founding principles.
“In light of this situation, and after careful consideration, all members of the Bersatu Beluran divisional committee hereby announce our resignation from all party positions and our immediate withdrawal from membership in Parti Bersatu,” he said.
“We believe that the struggle for the people, especially the Bumiputera of Sabah, must continue on a path that is more honest, principled, and free from the personal interests of any individual.”
