BINTULU (Sept 26): Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Asas Stabil Sdn Bhd to strategically improve port operations and tackle the challenges brought about by climate change.
The partnership aims to leverage state-of-the-art satellite technology, data analytics and geomatic surveying to transform Bintulu Port’s operational capabilities.
Asas Stabil in a statement said the focus will be on improving security, vessel monitoring, traffic management and underwater data collection using innovative space and AI solutions.
“Through this MoU, Asas Stabil will apply its expertise in space technology and data analytics to deliver real-time monitoring and in-depth traffic analysis for Bintulu Port.
“The integration of satellite IoT systems will optimise water route management, enhance security protocols, streamline vessel traffic, and improve the overall operational efficiency of the port’s infrastructure,” it said.
Asas Stabil added that this collaboration will introduce advanced satellite-based systems offering a comprehensive overview of port activities — from vessel tracking to enhanced port safety — positioning Bintulu Port as a leader in technology-driven maritime operations across the region.
Founded in 2013, Asas Stabil Sdn Bhd is a multi-engineering and telecommunications company based in Kuala Lumpur.
Specialising in remote sensing, satellite IoT and telecommunications solutions, the company offers a wide range of services, including advanced telemetry, tracking, and control (TT&C) systems, satellite data services and smart city innovations.
In 2024, Asas Stabil launched operations at its new Perlis Ground Station, providing critical TT&C services to satellite operators.
This development has reinforced the company’s position as a key regional player in the space technology sector.
Asas Stabil is also targeting the development of the Space Technology Hub, a landmark initiative designed to transform Sarawak into a regional hub for space technology, satellite communications and remote sensing.
Through its partnership with Sarawak-based company Space Beacon Sdn Bhd, the Space Technology Hub will serve as a platform for satellite research, education and the commercialisation of space technologies.
Supported by organisations such as the China National Space Administration (CNSA), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) and other leading space technology institutions, the hub will drive advancements in precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, and urban planning.
“We are honoured to partner with Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad in enhancing port operations through advanced satellite and data technologies.
“The Space Technology Hub further demonstrates our commitment to driving innovation across multiple sectors, while positioning Malaysia as a pivotal player in the global space industry,” said Dato Lee Lik Khuan, chief executive officer (CEO) of Asas Stabil Sdn Bhd.
