ADVERTISE HERE

Yii points at a blocked drain during an inspection at Krokop.
MIRI (Feb 7): An immediate ground inspection was conducted in Krokop here following reports of blocked drains and overgrown vegetation obstructing water outlets into the river.
Miri mayor Adam Yii personally led taken Miri City Council (MCC) officers during the inspection at Krokop Utama earlier this week, just days after drainage issues were flagged during a routine check in the area.
Yii said the council officers were brought directly to the affected locations to assess the situation firsthand, stressing that action should not wait for formal complaints or further delays.
“We stood in the drains, walked to the outlets and listened directly to residents who shared the longstanding challenges they have been facing.
“The feedback from residents on site is crucial in helping the council better understand the root causes of the problem,” he said in a statement after the inspection.
During the visit, clear on-the-spot instructions were issued to council officers, emphasising the need for urgent action and visible improvements.
“This is not a service approach that waits for complaints. It is about proactively going into the constituency, identifying problems early and resolving them quickly,” said Yii.
The Pujut assemblyman emphasised that public service cannot be carried out behind office desks, but requires officers to be present on the ground, engaging residents and following up consistently.
“Serving the constituency is carried out through every inspection, every follow-up and every moment spent on the ground with residents,” he added.
He noted that while the public may only see photos from the day’s inspection, such groundwork is part of the council’s daily routine to ensure municipal issues are addressed promptly and effectively.
Residents with feedback or concerns can contact 019-886 3819 or 010 383 3819, or follow updates via the council’s official WhatsApp channel.
