BMF draws 16,000 as KSHMR closes festival in style

KUCHING: Loud music, colourful outfits and groups of excited festivalgoers filled the Sarawak Cultural Village during the two-day Borderland Music Festival (BMF).

The sound of electronic music became louder upon entering the festival grounds, where food stalls and different performance areas kept visitors moving throughout the evening.

As night fell, more people gathered near the main stage ahead of the international acts.

The crowd danced beneath bright stage lights as lasers swept across the venue and smoke effects erupted during each major beat drop.

Many raised their phones to record the performances, while others simply danced along with friends.

A total of 16,000 people attended the festival over its two days.

The excitement peaked during the final performance last night (Sept 12) as KSHMR took the stage.

The American DJ and producer delivered a powerful closing set featuring dramatic visuals, bursts of smoke and music that kept the crowd moving until the end.

His performance also incorporated elements of local music and a Malay-language monologue, drawing loud cheers from the audience.

The local touches added something familiar to his international sound and helped him connect with the Sarawak crowd.

However, the festival ended with more than just KSHMR’s performance.

Towards the end of the night, the words “TOK by Borderland” appeared on the main screens, alongside details indicating that something would take place in Kuching in March 2027.

What “TOK” refers to remains unclear, leaving the crowd with one last surprise after the music ended.
