KUCHING (March 9): A total of 345 recipients from several villages and residential areas in Kampung Gita and Matang areas received Hari Raya contributions from the Kampung Gita Matang Muslim Welfare Trust Board.

The goodies were presented by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof – also the board chairman – during a ceremony held at Kampung Pinang Jawa Community Hall here on Sunday.

“One of the efforts we are undertaking today is providing assistance to those in need through the Kampung Gita Matang Muslim Welfare Trust Board.

“This is also a manifestation of our concern and compassion for one another.

“This effort was made possible through close cooperation between the trust board and the local community leaders in identifying eligible recipients within their respective areas.

“The assistance we provide each year may not be large in amount, but it is a sincere gesture to support one another,” said Fadillah, the MP for Petra Jaya.

The recipients comprised 72 from Kampung Pinang Jawa; 58 from Kampung Gita Laut and Sri Melati; 60 from Kampung Gita Lama and Sungai Maong; 65 from Kampung Gita Baru and Taman Marple Kuching; 37 from Kampung Gita Tengah; 13 from Taman Gita Jaya; 21 from Taman Fitrah, Taman Rose and Taman Foong Joon; and 19 from Laruh Scheme and Batu 2 1/2 Jalan Matang.

In his speech, Fadillah also reminded community leaders and local residents about the importance of strengthening unity to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of their communities.

“Leadership roles are not limited to elected representatives and community leaders, as they also extend to parents and individuals within their families and neighbourhoods.

“Every one of us has a role to play in ensuring the wellbeing of our families and communities, while helping those who may be facing challenges,” he pointed out.

He also encouraged community leaders to proactively identify the needs of residents, including those facing financial or health difficulties, so that appropriate assistance and support could be channelled to them.

Fadillah expressed hope that cooperation between community leaders, government agencies and residents would continue to be strengthened.

Also present were Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier and Tupong assemblyman Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, and Kuching South deputy mayor Datuk Dr Zaiedi Suhaili.
