Body of missing disabled man found floating in Sungai Limbang

Search and rescue personnel recovering the body of the 56-year-old man after it was found in a river at Kampung Tanjung, Mendamit, Limbang here.

MIRI (Dec 24): The body of a 56-year-old disabled man who had been missing since Monday was found floating in Sungai Limbang near SK Tanjung Lama, Medamit, Limbang, about 12km from the location where he was last seen.

According to a report by the search and rescue (SAR) team, led by Limbang Fire and Rescue Department senior fire officer I Mohd Ismail, the operation resumed on Wednesday morning with the involvement of the police, Limbang Civil Defence Force (APM Limbang) personnel and local villagers.

The team was alerted at about 9.50am by a member of the public who reported seeing a body floating in the river.

After the body was retrieved from the water, it was examined by Ministry of Health personnel before being handed over to the police for further action.

The case has been classified as a sudden death.

The victim, identified as Ganda Sandin, 56, who had disabilities, was reported missing after he entered a forested area near the Medamit Health Clinic late on Monday evening.

He was believed to have left his home at a nearby squatter settlement wearing only a towel and a shirt.

A police report was lodged the following day after family members were unable to locate him, prompting the launch of the SAR operation.

The search operation was officially called off on police instructions at about 11.20am.

A total of 26 personnel were involved in the operation, comprising eight police officers, eight APM personnel, 10 local villagers and eight Bomba personnel.
