A K9 search dog from the Fire and Rescue Department tracks scent trails during the third day of the search for a missing man in Kanowit.

KANOWIT (March 10): The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) on Tuesay deployed its canine unit to assist in the third day of the search for a missing 22-year-old man.

Kanowit police chief DSP Junical Ujal said the deployment was to help track potential scent trails which could lead to the discovery of Richard Lee Apang, who was reported missing after venturing into a forested area behind Rumah Ricky, Jalan Penyulau/Lukut here last Saturday.

“Today’s (March 10) search-and-rescue operation resumed at around 8am, involving police, Bomba, and Civil Defence Force personnel, as well as 25 villagers.

“They were divided into three teams, covering a search radius of three to five kilometres from the victim’s last known location,” he said in a statement.

Junical said the search parties were faced with challenging terrain, including hilly areas, swampy patches, and small streams.

“Four-wheel-drive vehicles are being used to transport the rescuers into deeper sections of the forest. Despite the difficulties, we remain committed to locating the missing man,” he added.
