KUCHING, Feb 24: The ‘Borneonisation agenda’ of the federal civil service in Sarawak and Sabah achieved good progress as 87 per cent of federal staff in Sarawak are locals, while Sabah has reached approximately 71 per cent.

Speaking to reporters after delivering an address to heads of federal departments and agencies at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar today, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said that the agenda is still under discussion, with ongoing efforts to further enhance the participation of local officers in federal services.

He explained that there is no fixed target for the completion of the programme, which aims to increase the participation of local officers in federal services.

At the same time, he also encouraged Sarawakian and Sabahan civil servants to gain experience by serving in other states, including Putrajaya, as exposure to different work cultures and operational experiences is crucial.

“Officers can bring these insights back to their home states to strengthen planning and implementation of local development initiatives.

“This approach not only allows our officers to learn from practices elsewhere but also helps them contribute more effectively to the development of their own states.

“Interaction with colleagues from other states is also important to foster national integration and knowledge sharing,” he added. — DayakDaily
