LIMBANG (April 9): Brunei will be extending the operating hours of its immigration control posts until 12am for three days starting April 10.
This is in view of Limbang expecting an influx of visitors during this period as Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to be in town to attend several events, including the launch of the Sarawakku Sayang roadshow.
The Brunei Immigration and National Registration Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a statement that the extended hours will involve the Ujung Jalan Temburong Control and Inspection Complex, Labu Temburong Temporary Control Post, Kuala Lurah Temporary Immigration Control Post, and the Sungai Tujoh Immigration Control Post in Kuala Belait.
“The operating hours of Brunei immigration control posts will return to normal from 6am to 10pm on April 13,” the statement added.
The Sarawak Premier was born in Limbang on Aug 4, 1950.
There have also been public grievances from motorists on social media, with many complaining about being forced to turn back from the border due to congestion, resulting in waiting times of up to three hours as Brunei tightens its fuel management controls with its three-quarter fuel rule and e-arrival registration requirement.
The delays at the CIQs, particularly in Lawas, have prompted some travellers arriving in the evening to turn back for fear of not being able to complete their journey to Miri or vice versa.
