Minos at Bung Bratak on May 11.By DayakDaily Team
KUCHING, May 11: Bung Bratak has been successfully connected to the electricity grid, bringing an end to years of dependence on two diesel generators that had powered the heritage and eco-tourism site since its operations began in 2017.
In a recent statement, former Bung Bratak Heritage Association (BBHA) chairman Dato Peter Minos described the development as a significant milestone for the site, attributing it to coordinated support from federal and state agencies through the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).
He said the previous reliance on generators had resulted in high maintenance costs and occasional power disruptions, particularly during events, which in turn affected overnight stays and the smooth running of programmes.
“With electricity now in place, operations will be more stable and comfortable for visitors, while eliminating the disruptions previously experienced during functions,” he said.
Following the upgrade, Minos said the improved infrastructure is expected to further strengthen Bung Bratak’s role as an eco-tourism and events destination, especially as interest continues to grow among corporate groups and organisations.
He added that preparations are also underway for a strategic engagement involving Serian District Council councillors and senior staff, who are expected to hold discussions and an overnight stay at the site as part of a brainstorming session on the district’s future direction, including cultural programmes showcasing Bidayuh heritage.
Minos also expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Tourism, the Sarawak Government, SALCRA, local representatives and other contributors involved in the project, saying the development reflects strong collaboration in strengthening heritage tourism for the Bidayuh community in the Jagoi-Bratak area. — DayakDaily
