KINABATANGAN (Jan 5): Parti Warisan has announced its candidates set for the by-elections in Lamag state constituency, and the Kinabatangan parliamentary constituency.

The nomination day has been set for this Jan 10, and polling day, on Jan 24.

Warisan’s deputy president Datuk Darell Leiking, in a statement Monday, said Mazliwati Abdul Malek would contest for Lamag, and Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman for Kinabatangan.

Both seats are vacant following the death of Datuk Seri Pangima Bung Moktar Radin, Umno Sabah chief and Barisan Nasional (BN) Sabah chairman, on Dec 5 last year.

Darell said: “Mazliwati is a leader who understands the needs of the people of Lamag.

“Her experience and capability in articulating issues related to the state administrative system will enable her to be a strong voice in championing the interests of Lamag in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

“Meanwhile, Saddi will draw on his 12 years of experience as a member of the DUN to make the Dewan Rakyat a platform to debate Sabah’s rights at the federal level, and also to ensure that the voice of the people of Kinabatangan is brought forward firmly, with integrity and consistency.”

Adding on, Darell said Warisan was entering these state and parliamentary by-elections with a firm stand on its struggle as a party that remained loyal to its principles, steadfast in its mission to save Sabah, and committed to providing a clear, consistent political direction rooted in the people’s mandate.

“In line with this, Warisan will continue to be committed to its agenda for the state of Sabah, which serves as the guiding principles of the party, which comprise defending Sabah’s rights and autonomy; strengthening the local economy and the well-being of the people; practising clean, transparent and people-centred governance; and building a fair, inclusive and sustainable future for all the people of Sabah,” he said.

According to Darell, the Lamag and Kinabatangan by-elections are about ‘principles, leadership and the direction of the parties contesting’.

“Warisan has never compromised on its struggle, and both of our candidates reflect that commitment to the state of Sabah,” he added.

“Warisan also calls upon all eligible voters to fulfil their democratic responsibility this Jan 24, in the interest of a better future for Lamag, Kinabatangan and Sabah.”
