KUCHING (March 26): Cabinet members have submitted feedback on the current economic situation following a request from the federal government, said Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Dato Sri Nancy Shukri.

She said the feedback was requested after a meeting by the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) under the Ministry of Economy, which is assessing potential policy measures for the country.

“The government has just concluded its meeting, and we were required to provide our feedback as Cabinet members.

“Since we were on holiday, the feedback was submitted in writing, so no final decisions have been made yet,” she told reporters during her Aidilfitri visit to Kampung Tabuan Lot here.

Nancy was responding to questions on current economic uncertainties, including rising diesel and petrol prices.

She said several proposals are being considered, taking into account Cabinet input and the broader economic context.

“There are proposals that reflect our suggestions while also considering the country’s economic situation.

“We hope Malaysia will avoid difficulties faced by other countries, as we are mindful of the people’s hardships,” she said.

She confirmed the deadline for submission was 8pm on Wednesday, adding that providing feedback does not indicate any final decision.

Nancy also stressed the need to balance public needs with the government’s capacity to implement measures.

“In providing our feedback, we must weigh the needs of the people against what the government can realistically do, while keeping the economy in mind,” she said.

While declining to disclose details of her suggestions, she indicated that work-from-home arrangements for officers were among the considerations.

She added that the government is also exploring measures related to fuel usage, including diesel and petrol, to improve economic efficiency and reduce public costs.

“We are looking at ways to save on diesel and petrol consumption. All these factors are being considered to ensure the people are not burdened,” she said.
