KUCHING, Mar 10: Sarawak has drawn Canada’s interest in exploring opportunities for strategic cooperation in the energy, agriculture, and aerospace sectors.

According to Canadian High Commissioner to Malaysia, Jodi Rae Robinson, Canada’s innovative companies and expertise could support Sarawak’s development priorities in these fields.

At the same time, she said this could also open opportunities for both parties to exchange technology and knowledge in industries with strong growth potential in Sarawak.

“We have many innovative companies from Canada as well as expertise in areas that are priorities for Sarawak, such as energy, agriculture and aerospace, which I understand is a relatively new field for Sarawak.

“There are many opportunities for us to collaborate in these sectors,” she said to reporters after paying a courtesy call to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

At the same time, Robinson also said that Canada sees potential in supporting Sarawak to ensure that the mining industry is carried out in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.

“I know the Sarawak Premier has a strong commitment to ensuring that mining activities are carried out sustainably.

“Therefore, we are looking at how Canada can support Sarawak from the perspective of the mining industry while ensuring it is implemented sustainably,” she said.

Afterwards, Abang Johari also received a courtesy call from the Norwegian Ambassador to Malaysia, Marianne Fosland. — DayakDaily
