China-Sarawak cooperation reaches new heights this year, says consul-general

KUCHING (Sept 25): The relationship between China and Sarawak has continued to strengthen this year, with significant progress in various areas of cooperation, said Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching Xing Weiping.

He noted the remarkable achievements of China-Sarawak cooperation in sectors such as new energy, equipment manufacturing, digital economy and healthcare.

“The very first unit of the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) hydrogen vehicle for the Kuching Urban Transportation System project has rolled off the production line at the Yibin factory of CRRC Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co, Ltd and will be delivered to Kuching.

“Additionally, Foshan Feichi Motor Technology Co Ltd collaborated with i-CATS University College on training and education in hydrogen bus technology, setting a model for China-Malaysia green energy cooperation,” he said in his speech at the 75th anniversary reception of the founding of the People’s Republic of China at a local hotel here yesterday.

Xing also noted that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Fudan University and Imasa Dinasti Sdn Bhd, has opened a new chapter in China-Sarawak medical and scientific research cooperation.

“More and more companies from Shanghai, Sichuan, Yunnan and other places of China are coming to Sarawak to explore cooperation opportunities,” he said.

Xing highlighted that the number of sister cities between China and Sarawak has increased to 34, with Guangnin and Miri, Yibin and Padawan successively establishing their sister-city relations.

According to him, China and Sarawak actively maintain friendly exchanges between the sister province-state and cities.

“More than 20 delegations from Yunnan Province and other sister provinces and cities have visited Sarawak, and more than 10 politicians and leaders from Kuching, Miri, Sibu and Padawan have visited China,” he said.

Among those present at the event were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and his wife Datin Amar Enn Ong, Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Abdullah Saidol and Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting.
