KUCHING (March 1): Federation of Chinese Associations of Sarawak and the Federation of Chinese Associations of Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian Divisions (FCAKSS) has reaffirmed their unequivocal support for Sarawak’s efforts to defend its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

FCAKSS president Dato Sri Richard Wee Liang Chiat called on organisations across various sectors to stand united with the state amid the recent legal dispute between Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros).

“On behalf of the federation, I would like to express our firm and unequivocal support for the Sarawak Government’s position.

“We make no apologies in calling upon all segments of society including political, economic, cultural and educational organisations to stand united with the Sarawak government in steadfastly defending the rights accorded to Sarawak under the MA63,” he said.

He made the remarks during the FCAKSS Chinese New Year Dinner 2026 at the Unit For Other Religions (Unifor) Complex here on Sunday, attended by nearly 1,000 guests.

Wee also echoed Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s call for young Chinese professionals to join the Sarawak civil service, in line with the state government’s progressive policies and its recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

“I also sincerely call upon Sarawakian professionals working overseas in fields such as technology, medicine, engineering, construction and other specialties to seriously consider returning home to contribute to the development of our homeland,” he added.

Wee noted that Sarawak is currently at a critical stage of transformation and that the participation and dedication of professionals and skilled talents are urgently needed.

“Let us stand shoulder to shoulder in fulfilling the noble mission of building a prosperous and progressive Sarawak,” he expressed.

Looking ahead, he reiterated that the federation will continue promoting cross-cultural exchange activities among all communities, including leveraging new technologies and skills to engage younger generations and ensure that the federation’s spirit and objectives are carried forward.
